  • The first trip of a regular scheduled airplane was made. The first passenger bid $400 for the first flight.

  • Henry Ford introduces the assembly line. The improvement was able to cause a boom in the automobile intrustry but in the future war effort as well in the production of tanks.

  • The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers forms in NYC. ASCAP was founded by Voctor Herbert.

  • President Wilson proclaims Mother's Day. The annual holiday was to be the second sunday of the month of may.

  • Archduke Ferdinand and his wife are assassinated while visiting the Bosnian capital. This event is credidted fo the spark of WWI.

  • Paris Peace Conference took place followinf the end of WWI to set peace terms for the defeated Central Powers. It took place in Paris and involved diplomats frm more than 32 countries.

  • Treaty of Versailles is signed ending the first world war. In the treaty the state of war between Gemany and the Allied Powers was officially ended.

  • Nazi party wins 14 seats in Reichstag. This is in addition to the 24 seats they had won just 4 years before and the 107 they will win in the next 2 years.

  • The US and 14 other nations signed the Kellog Briand Pact.

  • Herbert Hoover wins the presidential election of 1928. He had previously spent eight years as a secretary of commerce in the Harding and Coolidge administrations.

  • Unemployment in Germany reaches 4 million.

  • Japanese army invades Manchuria. China is not successful in fighting back.

  • Paul von Hindenburg beats Hitler in the presidential election.

  • Adolf becomes chancellor of Germany. Chancellor is directly below president and is a position of much power.

  • Roosevelt rises to power in the presidential election of 1932. He broke the tradition of by flying to Chicago to deliver the first acceptance speech ever made to a nominating convention.

  • Reichstag passes the Enabling Bill. Hitler later uses this bill to exclude Communists from local government.

  • The Nye Committee meets to investigate the United State's involvment in WWI. The conclusion of this meeting leads to the first Neutrality Act.

  • Germany inveads Czechoslovakia. They split the country into two- Czech and Slovakia.

  • Hitler and Mussolini agree to form a military alliance. Together they are the first to join as the axis Powers.

  • Germany and japan sign the Anti-Comintern Pact. This is an agreement to exchange information about Communist groups.

  • Italy joins the Anti-Commintern Pact. All three countries depsise communistic government.

  • Spain joins the Anti-Comintern Pact. Spain too is led by a dictator who despises communism- Francisco Franco.

  • Goebbels organizes Krystallnacht. Krystallnacht is German for Crystal Night- signifies a night which much glasss was shattered during the bombarding of several jewish family homes.

  • Stalin and Hitler sign the Nazi-Soviet Pact. Russia is now at the aid of Germany.

  • Germany invades Poland. In the midst of the invasion they annex Danzig.

  • Germany breaks through France's Maginot Line. France is attacked.

  • Petain begins to negotiate armisticee with germnay. Hitler uses him to set up a "puppet government".

  • France signs an armistice with Germany. France is then divided into two.

  • Womens Army Corps(WAC) is established. Congress allows women in the military but not to fight.

  • Hitler orers occupation of Vichy France. This was supposed to be the once free hald of France.

  • Korematsu v. US case calls for all japanese american to relocate.. This case is decided because it is not a matter of racial prejudice but rather a safety precaution from japanese spies.

  • President Roosevelt is stricken with death. President Harry Truman is elected as the next president.

  • America defeats Europe. Day becomes known as V-E Day for victory in Europe.
